What is Redemption Group?
Redemption Group is short term gospel community with two intentional purposes for everyone involved — to help one another live out the gospel in the midst of the struggles of life and to equip one another to care for and build up others with the gospel. Redemption Group is lead by ministry leaders from all across Sojourn who have already gone through Redemption Group.
What Redemption Group Is Not
Redemption Group is not an on-going support group because it meets for only eight weeks. Redemption Group is not organized by particular struggles because we all need to be redeemed in our suffering and sin. Redemption Group is not for those considered “spiritually mature” or “really messed up” because we are all in desperate need of the gospel. Redemption Group is not a substitute for Community Group because of its time-limited nature.
What is the format and end goal for Redemption Group?
The Redemption Group evenings start with a gathered time of worship and hearing God’s story from Exodus, where the Israelites journey through the wilderness from slavery to freedom. Afterward, you will gather with your small group to journey together through life issues that you’re dealing with. Redemption Group is far beyond a Bible study; this is about life study—coming face to face with Jesus our Redeemer, who delivers us from our suffering, pain and misery. Each participant leaves Redemption Group with a new way of seeing God and themselves, along with having tools to continually work out redemption in their own lives in gospel community.
Schedule Info
Redemption Group starts with a “weekend intensive” starting Friday night from 6-9pm and Saturday from 9am to 3pm, then meets for seven Monday evenings from 6 to 8:45pm, and concludes with a Celebration held on the following Sunday. The next class will begin in September 2011. Click here to see the schedule. Registration for this class will open in the fall. See the 2011 calendar for more scheduled Redemption Group offerings.
How Can I Get Involved?
Simply fill out the application form when it becomes available. A cost of $40 per person covers the cost of the book, meals and snacks during the initial weekend intensive, and goes towards childcare costs. Space is limited and priority will be reserved for Sojourn members. Redemption Groups are currently available only at the Midtown campus. Potential leaders are selected from those who participate in Redemption Group, then developed as apprentices before they serve as co-leaders.
